August 22, 2015 Sprinting (first track spike session!)

  • 60m: 2
First thoughts: Felt...cool, it's like you're almost instantly at your top speed, there's no slip back or anything on the start.  I'm surprised how much I felt a boost past the first 20m or so, it was definitely helping me push off harder with each step.

  • 100m:  12.44
First 100 with them...I actually tailed off for the past 20m since it was supposed to just be a warmup run, and came within .12 of a PR....this is going to be fun.

  • 100m: 12.13 NEW PR!!
I actually stumbled a bit at 20m, simply because I got such a huge push at the start, I'm not used to it.

  • 100m: 12.06 NEW PR!!
It's going to take at least a few sessions before I'm used to this push at the start, I almost feel like I'm going to face-plant on my starts...Still, PR! I definitely feel like 11s are coming, as soon as I start getting used to these things.

  •  100m: 11.92 NEW PR!!
Or I'll just get into the 11s right now....whoah. Honestly I have faster in me....I feel like once I get used to this 11.6 or better is possible.

So yeah.....HUGE help at the start, which contributed the most to besting my previous PR by .4, but honestly the help further down the track was amazing, I've never hit the top speeds I was hitting before. Once I get used to those first 30 meters and can kind of 'cage' the huge speed at the starts I should be able to knock down PRs.  I officially feel like a sprinter now....just need to start from a crouch, which is the next task after I master the spikes.

  • 100m: 12.35,  12.44
Finished with a couple more but I was pretty tired at this point...still the 12.35 would've almost been a PR about an hour ago.

Total: 720m

May 10, 2015 Sprinting

Energy: 8

  • 100m:1, 12.72
So I was off to a good start here, no 110s to start, I wanted to get right into the 100s since I've been so close to a new PR. It was hot and humid, so basically my ideal weather to run in.  So I gear up for third, and this happened:

  •   100m: 12.50 NEW PR!!
Beyond pumped, I didn't just break my previous record I beat it by over .1!  No blocks, no spikes, no crouch at the start.  I rested for about 8 minutes and then figured I'd go for one more max effort run:

  • 100m: 12.47 NEW PR!!
Well then.  My records do tend to come in bunches.  What I noticed on the 12.47 my stride was a bit longer. Usually you don't want super long strides, but I'm wondering if mine have actually been too short.  I was starting to fatigue, but was so pumped I wanted to try a couple more max effort 100s.

  • 100m: 12.50!!, 12.53!!

So my four fastest 100s ever, all in the space of about a half hour.  Not a bad session I'd say!

Not bad, just some short work, looking at my starts.

March 15, 2015 Sprinting

  • 100m: 8
  • Total: 800m

At BU again.  Forecast for this coming week is high 40s, and this coming Sunday may be around 41, if that holds up I may get to run outside at Harvard's track. One can hope.

  • 100m: 8
BU track again, really good session here, feel like I'm back to a well conditioned state here, only took 3 sessions.

Again at BU

February 22, 2015 Sprinting

  • 100m: 8

So I finally gave up waiting for the track to melt at harvard and went to BU's indoor track at their gym.  It's a pretty fast track, but the length is weird, 7 laps to a mile, so about 230m.  This means there isn't much of a straightaway. I compensate by starting off the oval, in an area for stretching, that is behind one of the long straightaways, I start sprinting from there, and get to about where 100m is before stopping.  Feels good to get a run in again. After I'm done at BU I'll have to just pay for a day visit to the Y in Newton or somewhere with an indoor track.

December 21, 2014 Spinting

  • 110m: 6
  • Total: 660m
Good time, just a straight-forward sprinting session, was pretty chilly out, just want to maintain conditioning in these so that when spring comes I can turn loose and have 7-8 straight months of hopefully killing it at the track.

December 07, 2014 Sprinting

  • 110m: 3
  • 100m: 12.83 13.00
  • 110m: 2
  • Total: 750m

Freezing. Windy. Headwind. Dry as dusty bones.  Basically 4 things I hate dealing with, but after the third 110 I felt like I had some speed in me, turned in a 12.83. Not too bad in the bulky clothing.

November 30, 2014 Sprinting

  • 110m: 2
  • 100m: 12.98, 13.08, 13.20
  • 110m: 1
  • Total: 630m
Felt a bit slow today. In full winter gear though, might've slowed me down a bit. I hate running in the cold, especially when it's dry out, feels like I'm not getting enough oxygen or something. I know I've said it before, but I just feel so much faster when it's hot & humid out.  Must be that 1/8 middle-eastern or something.

November 23, 2014 Sprinting

  • 110m: 2
  • 100m: 13.08, 12.91, 13.20
  • 100m: 2 - RACE!
  • Total: 720m
Great time! I was wearing winter gear; tights, compression long sleeve shirt.  I doubt it limited my times that much, the air was just reeeally dry & cold. I hate running in that.  Still sub-13 though, which is good.  For the last 2, there was a high school runner from Texas visiting family, we decided to race. He won, by about .3 and .15;  apparently he's trying to go to Stanford on a track scholarship, I hope he gets there.  Those last 2 100m sprints may have been my fastest ever, I love having someone to race against.

November 16, 2014 Sprinting

  • 110m: 10
  • Total: 1100m

Great session, wanted to put some good work in. Have tights to wear on my legs finally after 3 years so I can sprint in colder weather.

November 2, 2104 Sprinting

  • 110m: 4
Sleet/ice/rain/snow. Not good times.

October 26, 2014 Sprinting (A.M.)

  • 110m: 2
  • 100m: 12.72, 12.67(!!)
  • Total: 420m

So this was supposed to be a 'take it easy' session as I have football in the PM.  I can't help myself though.  Missed PR by .02, good times, literally.

October 19, 2014 Sprinting

  • 110m: 2
  • 100m: 12.65 NEW PR!! 12.88
  • 110m: 3
  • Total: 750m

Well that went well.  Friday I didn't do regular squats; I was trying to save my posterior chain for a sprint session and a record attempt. It worked!  Feels awesome.  Although I will say I'm absolutely gassed after this.

September 28, 2014 Sprinting

  • 110m: 2
  • 100m: 12.91, 12.89, 13.10, 13.40
  • 110m: 1
  • Total: 730m

Well that went well.  Didn't sleep a ton last night, but still was sub 13. Crazy that this time last year 13.5 would be good, and this time my 6th of the day is 13.4, when I'm tiring out.
